Concept
Use experimental typography to create a poster series showcasing the unique perspectives and talents of three poets, Gwendolyn Brooks, Javier Zamora, and Monica Youn to persuade viewers to attend an event showcasing their work.
Research
Researched the work and background of each poet to create a concept that connects the poets using the theme "lines of equality: exploring poetic paths to justice."
Each poster centers around the theme "alone in unbelonging" to showcase the unique isolation experienced by each poet as a result of injustice. These experiences heavily influenced each poets work and motivated them to give a voice to the unseen.
Sketches And Freeplay
Used lines from the poet's work and keywords representing their individual experiences with isolation caused by injustice to create experimental compositions. Using words such as excluded, silenced, and third culture on a paper mache method on a 3-dimensional form to visually represent a rough terrain in the struggle of overcoming inequality.
Digital Iteration
Experimented with different methods of manipulating the text and color pallet of each poster to best convey the purpose of the series.
